Annie Alexander's "Tableaux" are made from
re purposed linen and abaca.
She combs through Goodwill's stock
of linen dresses and table cloths
to find items ready for the beater.
The fabric is cut into 1 inch pieces
and processed in a
Hollander Beater for up to a week.
The resulting pulp is put into a mould and
couched onto a board to dry.
Each tableau is unique, a one-of-a-kind.
Many are monoprints, transitional
from light to dark,
many have interesting inclusions gleaned from
Annie's garden or the creek nearby.
The sizes range from 11" x 85"
to 30" x 94".
All paper produced at Beyond Words Paper
is archival, color fast and ready to hang.
The inventory for Tableaux numbers over 75.
To simplify choice, Annie has shown the first 50.
There are more in the collection.
